Giovanni "Gio" Fernandez, PhD

President and Financial Advisor

As a Financial Advisor and President of Fernandez Wealth Management, I serve our clients by providing comprehensive financial planning, retirement planning, investment planning, tax-efficient investment management, and insurance analysis, as well as overseeing the management of our firm.

I began working in the financial services industry nearly two decades ago, assisting my late father, Ray Fernandez, with his business. I became licensed myself in 2012. I bring a wealth of experience to the table. I hold the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) designation, solidifying my expertise in guiding clients towards their financial goals. Additionally, I hold both an undergraduate degree and a PhD from Florida International University, where I further honed my knowledge in finance. In addition to my role as a Financial Advisor, I have been teaching finance and financial planning as a professor at Stetson University since 2012.

What truly motivates me is witnessing the peace of mind that comes from guiding someone successfully through a financial plan, enabling them to live the life they desire. From helping clients get started with investments to navigating retirement plans and making tax-efficient moves, I find immense fulfillment in seeing clients achieve their long-term goals. I specialize in financial planning, retirement distribution planning, tax-efficient investment plans, and generational planning, as I believe these areas have a profound impact on securing a prosperous future. Expertise, honesty, and peace of mind are the greatest values I strive to provide for my clients. By offering sound financial advice and fostering a transparent relationship, I aim to empower individuals and families to make informed decisions about their financial future.

One aspect of my job that I particularly enjoy is the perfect blend of routine and novelty it offers. While each client's situation is unique, there are underlying patterns that help guide our decision-making process. I firmly believe that "this time is different" are the four most dangerous words in finance. Therefore, I prioritize establishing processes and planning strategies to ensure the best outcomes for our clients.

Originally from Kendall, Florida, I currently reside in DeLand with my wife, Mallory, and we eagerly await the arrival of our daughter in 2024. Beyond my professional endeavors, I find solace in maintaining an active lifestyle through exercise and indulging in my passion for travel. Exploring new destinations, playing golf, and visiting wine country are among my favorite pastimes.
